Before I get into today’s post, I want to take a minute to honor the victims of the shooting at my alma mater, Michigan State. I know someone (from college) whose cousin is one of the victims that is in critical condition. I know with each and every shooting, it’s getting closer and closer to home for all of us. None of my words will be sufficient, so I just want to leave this here. 💔
Now for my pre-written post, how is your week going after *most likely* staying up later than normal for the Super Bowl? Shane had to get up at 3AM after that to leave for two days of work in the field....and I was just super grateful that I don't really ever have to set an alarm clock anymore (although Cashy is my reliable 7:45ish alarm clock) 😉What a difference from when I used to get up at 5:15AM or 6AM each and every day! I know I need to enjoy it while it lasts…
Well, Shane and I (very happily) ended up hosting a little Super Bowl get-together somehow, haha.
We had plans with a couple in the neighborhood we've gotten together with a few times; we were planning on them coming over to watch the game. The wife ended up texting me asking if friends of theirs (whose house we actually went to for Halloween) could come...of course we said yes! We also ended up asking Shane's coworker and wife (who we met at the Marine Corps Ball and have gotten together with a few times since) too. So, a little get-together somehow turned into us hosting somewhat of a party, hah! We were SO glad to finally be able to host and to have a house for things like this again! We are even more glad to be building up some friendships around here! We had a super fun night.
Our house is not quite finished (we still need to buy curtains, ideally some additional decor pieces, etc.) but it's pretty much there- at least it's good enough to comfortably welcome people in our space again! I will say that our entryway is probably fully complete?!
I'm not necessarily a football fan but I can look the part when needed, hah! I've been waiting all season to break out this Sunday Funday shirt!
We planned on doing just a bunch of appetizers and "finger-foods" for watching the game. I did little smokies, wings, cheddar/chili dip, mozzarella sticks, chips and queso, pickles, brownies...and my mushroom/sausage appetizers I make literally for nearly every get together. Nothing was too intensive or fancy but I had to ease back into this hosting thing! Our guests brought apps too. We had so. much. food! I'll be eating on Super Bowl leftovers all week.
Obviously not all the food is pictured, but I did try to snap a few pics before the last few dishes were ready and before the chaos of everyone arriving.
Shoutout to Mere for this bowl off our wedding registry! It was my first time making these super easy little smokies...and they were a hit!
One of our guests made/brought this super cute g-free charcuterie board. How perfect!
A little drink and desserts station. Shane and I always keep that dessert dome out right there on the counter and I almost always try to have some baked good in it. They don’t last long when he’s around.
Shane was super pumped to have his bar cart up and running again...
He even did a nice little drinks setup in our otherwise-temporarily-bare dining room...makes me laugh!
It was so nice just to have people in our home and to be able to get festive and get hosting. We love doing that! The pups were exhausted but sooo happy to have visitors again...especially since it was a fully rainy day where they couldn't get their walks and/or runs in the field in!
I don't really watch football, but Aunt Sue had us on her football pool for work, so I was sure hoping to win some big money. Us wives claimed the good seats on the couch, but I don't think any of us really watched the game or even the commercials much, but we did all tune in with full attention for the halftime show, of course! It was a good group to mix together.
And that was that! How'd you celebrate the Super Bowl? Hope you had fun! I'll be back here in this space tomorrow.

I miss your stuffed mushrooms 😩 Can the next blog be a house tour?! 😇- SB
