Happy Friday after Thanksgiving! I hope you had an amazing day with family yesterday. We spent the day at the Earhart's after getting into my parents' earlier in the day on Thursday, and then we'll continue celebrating throughout the weekend.
Okay, bear with me...you're not going to be seeing the prettiest pictures in this post, BUT I do have something new and fun to share with you!
Instead of a typical Friday Favorites with a bunch of my recent favorite (random) things listed, I wanted to focus in on one that has been, and I believe it will continue to be, life-changing.
Have you heard of this heatless curler headband? I've seen it everywhere for the past few months and have been getting targeted for it on my social media ads like crazy. As I get lazier (beauty-wise) the older I get, I found myself intrigued by anything that would give me the waves I used to love getting with my heated wand curler so frequently...that I just don't have the same motivation to use as often these days.
I started reading the endless rave reviews for this item, and I was sold. So, last week I found myself as a proud owner of one of these bad boys. I did buy the slightly cheaper Amazon version, but it's the same thing as what you see below.
I didn't really read tips or watch tutorials on the first time I tried it. I just kind of wung (winged?) it. I did it when it was about 80% wet after my shower one evening. I just started wrapping my hair around it- going in one direction (going away from my face). I did add OGX curl defining cream beforehand too, which was a new product for me to try.
I was looking super cray, but I left it like this for the rest of the night and slept with it on throughout the night. It actually wasn't uncomfortable for me, surprisingly. The clip on the top (that is intended to hold it in place) got a bit uncomfortable, so I took it out the first time I wore it throughout the night.
Well, I woke up to this...so I don't think I saw its full capabilities. I guess I wrapped it too loosely, I only wrapped in one direction and I read one review later that said you should wrap in both directions, and I took that clip out.
Another issue that I had on this first trial was using too much curl cream and also leaving my hair too wet. When I woke up in the morning, it was still definitely damp...which didn't create the best curls yet. However, I was still pretty impressed from the curls from this first trial run!
Since my hair was still kind of wet, the curls were messy and it honestly didn't look that far off from as if I would just go to bed with my natural curly/wavy wet hair.
I threw it up in a ponytail and went to the gym...and on my way home, this is how it looked. It settled a bit better and was a little more closely aligned with the look I was going for. (Many of these pics I solely took to send to a few of my close friends I was texting about this heatless curler, so these pics. were intended for that and not for this blog haha, but here we are...so just go with it.)
The next night, I brushed out the curls from that day, added just a LITTLE bit of curl defining cream, and I tried to wrap it again, but this time I made sure my hair was DRY. I also wrapped it tighter and pulled the front half of my hair to wrap in a backwards direction and the back half of my hair to wrap in a forwards direction...make sense?
The next morning, for Shane's promotion ceremony, I woke up to this! So for me- it seemed to work much better on dry hair.
I rocked that hair for a few days. 2-3 days later, we went out to dinner with some friends that were in town, and I had my hair up in a topknot all day. When it came time for last-minute dinner, I took my hair down, brushed it out...and ended up with this! I was very pleasantly surprised! The best part of this is that I didn't use any hairspray. I used to not mind, but now I hate having sticky hairspray in my hair. My curls definitely hold for much longer and without the use of hairspray...which is even better!
I used this again to just start out my curls before touching the up before the Marine Corps Ball. That time, I wrapped my hair after taking a shower, immediately drying it, and then wrapping it for only about 3 hours. The curls weren't as great since I didn't do it for a longer time or overnight, but it was a good start.
Overall, I think it's going to take a few more times of trial and error, but I am so impressed with this little heatless curler headband! I might not use it for a fancy event, but I think it's perfect for casual events or for everyday wear- without any damage or hairspray. Who knows?! As I master it more, it might become my main curling tool!
I am a little curious about how normal heatless overnight curlers would work (along with this curl defining cream I use) as opposed to this headband, so I might try that out too. I used to do heated curlers in college and I definitely used heatless curlers overnight before cheerleading competitions when I was in highschool, but I found myself always gravitating to my wand because I like the look of those curls so much more. Hmm, I think this headband is a close alternative though!
Have you heard of this wand? What are your thoughts? I'll keep you posted on any new tips or tricks I figure out!
And that's a random favorite to close out Thanksgiving week for you! Hope you have a fun Black Friday today. I started doing all my Christmas shopping online on Black Friday a few years ago (with my lists of ideas ready to go beforehand!) so that's my goal for this year again! We'll see how it pans out. We're pretty busy today, so I hope I'm able to fit it in!

Omg the memories of those heatless curlers before cheerleading competitions… always came out looking so tight and frizzy. I need to jump on this headband curler! -SM
