Halloween 2022

Happy Halloween!
Hope you all had an amazing and memorable weekend and holiday. It looks like Brecken did!

As predicted, this holiday was a little meh for us being childless, but we were glad that we were able to be together this year. I love the excitement and feeling that comes on the actual holiday (any holiday!), but it is definitely different celebrating holidays no longer being in the public school elementary setting! I went out to the grocery store and library just so I could see humans and pick up on some of that Halloween excitement haha- also, our grocery store gives a military discount on Mondays...so there I was.

I have a cute Halloween costume that I've wanted to do for the past few years but we weren't able to with Shane gone for a pre-deployment mockup a few years ago and then us being stranded in Houston last year. With a Halloween party theme for the party we were going to this year, we weren't able to do it again. Sigh, our time will come!
We celebrated with our “costumes” this past Saturday. A couple that Shane knows from previous military training that we've gotten together with a few times here invited us to a Murder Mystery 1920's themed party at one of their friends' houses. Two of the couples that we met there had actually lived in the same North Carolina town as us before us!

Shane and I got all ready and then headed out.
The couple that was hosting went all out with the decor, as you can see!
Yates with his ole Georgia accent (Why are all of our 4 main military friends both in NC and here from Georgia?!) and Shane
This was my first Murder Mystery party. There was a lot to remember and keep up with, but it was so much fun. Everyone got really into it.

Your assigned cigarette girl and bootlegger straight out of the 1920s...
Meanwhile, Brian, Bridget, and Brecken dressed up for Boo at the Zoo and Brecken was the cutest little Pokemon guy (haha, I don't know the appropriate name for this character...). This poor kid is going to get sucked into all of Brian's video game interests!

And Cher was up in Wisconsin for her annual girls' trip with her former XSport girls!

On actual Halloween, we had the patio door open and we were prepared to hand out candy to any kids who came our way... but unfortunately none showed up. We were unsure if we would get any kids trick or treating through the apartments as opposed to the townhomes and other houses nearby. It was a relentless rainy Halloween here in Virginia, so that didn't help our cause either, I'm sure.

Cashy was ready and waiting for those trick or treaters though…

I had my Houston Astros orange on (Astros in the World Series is just synonymous with Halloween after so many years of that now), made my simple Hurricane Spaghetti for dinner (what we've called my spaghetti since Hurricane Harvey when I made it so many times we we were stuck inside), and a festive spice cake for dessert! We curled up with some Halloween movies and my book for the evening.
And now, it's time for a new month. It's very hard for us to wrap our head around the fact that our first miscarriage baby would be due this month. Wow. That time seemed to go by so quickly but also that seems like a lifetime ago. It's mind-blowing, yet sad for us to think that we would have a baby and become parents this month, if all had gone as planned the first time around. We are so ready for that day...
On a lighter note, Halloween is over, so here we go onto the holiday season already! We're excited! Honestly, living with this colder weather in Virginia truly had me feeling like it's been the holiday season for the past month or so. I guess it's because I usually just experience this weather when we are home visiting my parents for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's thrown me off this year! Here's to hoping that we'll be in our house where we actually get to decorate for the Christmas season soon!

  2. Love the outfits and very impressed if you did that hairstyle all on your own! Thinking of you as we enter this month (and always) as I’m sure the feelings of what should have been are so difficult to manage. You deserve all of the happiness the holiday season brings and I’m crossing my fingers too that you can celebrate in your new house! -SM
