Shane’s 30th Birthday!

Happy 30th to my husband today!!!
It's kind of a wonky birthday for us celebrating him this year. He's in the field working all day and night today through Friday, so we celebrated just a bit yesterday!
We plan on celebrating "big" with his 30th birthday trip to another East Coast state in a few weekends! We went to Charleston for my 30th, and with our current living and his new job situation right now, he thought it would be easier to do a driving trip. He wanted a fall trip with colorful trees and such, so we threw around some ideas within driving distance and we found a place that sounds exactly like what he wants. I have to get trip planning this week then!

Since we can't actually celebrate him today, yesterday we made the 20 or so min drive to a very small, VERY old historic town named Occoquan. Shane and I actually stopped here for brunch after his graduation when he joined the Marines years ago, so it was fun to return and to see a bit more of the small town. It was a gorgeous day with temps in the low 70s.

We ate brunch at The Secret Garden again where we ate a few years ago! It's a cute hidden little place with a gorgeous outdoor patio.
Fun fact- last time we were here, someone saw Shane pull my chair out for me and told us that it's rare to see that gentleman southern charm these days, so they told our waiter they wanted to pay for our brunch. The waiter confused the tables and accidentally paid for someone else's brunch while referring to us, hah! Oh well, we were honored by the intended gesture!
We walked around some quaint historic shops after to explore the town a bit more.

Shane spent the rest of the afternoon prepping his gear and making an excessive amount of PB&J sandwiches for his 4 days in the field,  haha.

We also celebrated with Shane's requested dinner- my Lemon Orzo Chicken, some store-bought desserts (ahh, partial-homeless, minimal supplies life!) and a few gifts. Shane also treated himself to getting fitted for/buying a brand new set of golf clubs...a spoiled birthday boy with that!

Typically I make a big homemade cake/dessert and decorate around the house with homemade signs to surprise him on his birthday, a la last year...

but alas, it's the year of making do with minimal to no supplies in our temporary living situation. There's always next year, right?

We ended the evening by his request of cuddling up together for a movie.

I consider it such an honor to celebrate my fun-loving, positive, upbeat, kind, generous, understanding, patient, hardworking, hilarious, selfless husband. He has faced so many challenges that few of us could ever even imagine...and you would never ever ever know it.

Despite such a demanding job, he continues to put me, C&C foremost in anything and everything. He gives his all (and then some) to all that he does, despite any circumstance or challenge. His many skills and talents impress me. His many ways of showing love impress me even more. I just am so incredibly glad that he came into my life back when he was a young 24 year old...yikes!

Happiest 30th Birthday, my cutie! I love you beyond words.
