That inspired me to share our little corner of happiness in the morning- our coffee corner. At this time, in this house, it's small and nothing extravagant, but it gets the job done.
I really started drinking coffee more routinely during Hurricane Harvey in Houston a few years ago, when Shane was staying with me for safety, and otherwise I would just have it on special occasions from Starbucks here and there. When Shane and I moved in together here in North Carolina, I started drinking it more regularly.
I love the idea of coffee, the smells, the cozy, soothing, comforting vibes of it. These days, I usually have it a few days a week, sometimes I get into phases of doing it more often and other times I get into routines of having it much less. I have a routine and addictive personality (the chef in my sorority years ago was the first to recognize that that applied to food and drink choices for me!), and that becomes apparent with periods of drinking coffee too.
I used to drink coffee black, but now I pretty heavily rely on creamer. Stephanie's husband was in pure and total shock the day he saw how much creamer I add to my coffee, and he still doesn't let that one go. I've tried a few creamers, but this one is my current favorite!
As far as coffee, Shane's grandparents got me hooked on Community Coffee (either the light blue or the yellow blends), but my best friends on my bachelorette party got me also super into Dunkin Donuts coffee, as so many people often rave about.
So many people think this is gross, but I wait for my coffee to get room-temperature or "cold" (I prefer ordering iced coffee when I'm out!) and I have been known to even put it in the fridge and drink on it for a few days. I've tried to be better about not doing that lately because I have started to notice the taste isn't as good. My coffee usually lasts me half a day, if not all day. Strange, I know.
So here's our little coffee corner. We got this coffee maker from my former Math Specialist co-worker in Houston, and this was one of Shane's fav wedding shower gifts!
Shane and I started collecting coffee mugs by getting one wherever we travel together. I get excited about which coffee mug I use each day and whichever one I choose, it always gives me calming feelings and truly reminds me of wonderful memories from whatever trip we got it from.
We wanted to have some on display, so I ordered this coffee stand from Amazon. We switch out which mugs are displayed based on the time of year or season (we have all Christmas seasonal mugs for that season especially) and sometimes just to spontaneously mix it up every so often.
Here are some of our favorites (I love a big mug; the tall ones are especially my favorite):
And for sentiment's sake, I had to steal back this one from my parents' house- my mug from Walt Disney World when I was a kid!
While I haven't been to Greece, that was one of the places Shane went on his deployment, and he got us both mugs from there.
Some of Shane's favorites:
I had a TON of mugs from teaching (that seems to be the go-to gift for teachers) and I've gotten rid of nearly all of those, but this is the one I still have. The size of it is unbeatable!
Here are some of our other favorite, non travel-related mugs. I tend to use some of these bigger ones for soup.
This Topsail Island mug is where we currently live, but the Nantucket one (my dream vacation destination after some of the beach reads I love!) is from the girl I used to babysit for. She got it for me when she visited there. I break that one out in the summertime with my summer reads!
We also have the matching mugs from Pottery Barn from our registry, when we have guests and want something a bit classier.
Random, but again- something that is interesting to me when other people post, and it was fun for me to write about and share! What coffee am I missing out on that I need to try? Here's to a Friday full of soothing and relaxing coffee for you!
