Favorite Cookbooks

I know a ton of people my age aren't that into cookbooks. They prefer to get their recipes off of Pinterest or other websites. I definitely do that too sometimes, but I find it that much easier to pull from my cookbooks. I am so much more excited to flip through recipes, and can do it more quickly it seems, when I use my own cookbooks. I'm old school in so many ways, so I guess we can just add this to the list!

I know buying cookbooks can be expensive, but I sometimes even check them out from the library and take pictures of recipes. I do pull some from online too. In those cases, if I like them, I then write them down and have them in my binder for future uses. It works!

Since our kitchen isn't the biggest and we don't have tons of counter space, we used to keep my cookbooks on the counter, but Shane has since ordered these baskets and put my cookbooks in them on top of the fridge.
They definitely are tricky to access and reach, so I pick out the few I'm using for the next few weeks (I usually use one cookbook a week and pull all my recipes from there) and leave just those few on the counter. See? They're alongside my meal planning notebook and my binder of written recipes that are my favorite.
So, all that to say, this post is going to be a list of some of my favorite cookbooks!

I feel like I have a lot of good or mediocre cookbooks with some good recipes I've tried here and there, and then I have a few standout cookbooks that nearly every single recipe in them is SO GOOD!

Whenever I make a new recipe, I write the date that I first made it at the top and jot down a note or two about how the recipe turned out, but I also write if that day was a special day. For example, I might write "Day before Shane's deployment". It's so fun to go back and associate memories with certain recipes and to see how long they've been favorites for!
Hands down, the two absolute best cookbooks I have are:
  • The Step-by-Step Instant Pot
  • The Lighter Step-by-Step Instant Pot
He has another new one coming out soon (or it just came out?) My mom recommended them to me and I have yet to find other cookbooks that are so consistently good. I was an Instant Pot fan the first few days that I got one years ago, but then I totally disregarded my Instant Pot...until these cookbooks. Now my Instant Pot is my most used kitchen gadget again. I love it!! I probably even use it more than my slow cooker now.

I love how visually appealing and user-friendly these cookbooks are. See what I mean? You can see that I also make sure I jot down any changes or additions I make to the recipe- which I actually do pretty frequently.

Other top of the line cookbooks are actually:
  • Magnolia Table Volume 1 by Joanna Gaines
  • Magnolia Table Volume 2 by Joanna Gaines
Some of my other favorite cookbooks are:
Of course I have all of my favorite blogger's older cookbooks. Her recipes are completely hit or miss- some are our absolute favorite meals that are on repeat and unfortunately there have been many others that are a one time deal.

Some healthier options, which have since been renamed in the past few years to be more politically correct are:
When I was first diagnosed with Hashimoto's years ago, and had to be hardcore paleo for awhile, these cookbooks are where I started out. They can be adapted to be non paleo and/or non-gluten free. That being said, I primarily use cookbooks that incorporate gluten and just adapt them to be gluten-free versions.

And some of my favorite of the paleo/gluten free ones that have had the best recipes are:
A few years ago, my mom gave me this cookbook she put together in high school, and I have to say there are some keepers in here too! This is a fun one to throw into the mix on occasion.
I also got a bunch of The Pioneer Woman cookbooks this past winter (not pictured) but the jury is still out on those recipes. I haven't really found any major winners.

And that's it! What are your favorite cookbooks or even recipes? One of my most favorite parts of being married and living with Shane is cooking dinner for us each weeknight. I just love it! Happy cooking to you and yours.
