Writing this post is really fun for me! I know it's probably weird, but starting years ago, I spend an hour or so every so often looking at upcoming book releases and writing them down in my planner on their release date. I know, I know...ultimate bookworm life.
It's super exciting for me to have good books to look forward to, and I also like to be one of the first (although I'm usually THE first!) on hold for them at the library before the other million holds get placed. It's weirdly thrilling for me to look at the library catalog multiple times, ahead of time, to see if my library has the book yet.
I do have to say that my Houston and VH libraries were so amazing at ordering books way ahead of time, and I was able to pick them up on the day of their release. Where I live now, my library gets some ordered ahead of time, but it usually takes a long while after the release date for them to come in. They don't order many until after the release date, but that doesn't keep me from searching for it multiple times a week.
I know this probably sounds like a lot of unnecessary work to many of you, but it honestly is just a fun and interesting hobby for me!
So, all that to say, my planner is full of books I'm excited to read, written on the day they come out, highlighted in my assigned (green) color for this. Can you say OCD/Type A?
I also keep a list in my planner of "older" books that are already released that I come across that I eventually want to read. There's also ANOTHER list in my planner for those newer ones that have just been released, but my library doesn't have, so I'll keep checking.
If there are books I'm really excited to read and my library doesn't have, or my library doesn't have it after awhile (This never really was an issue until this small town living), I will buy it on my Kindle, although I do prefer a library hardcover copy!
So the way I find these books is usually on Amazon. If I type in the title of a book I loved, it pulls up similar suggestions, and I can just click through and click through which leads to more books which then leads to more books.
To find future books, I'll usually type in a future book that I'm excited about and that will then pull up books that are coming out around the same time.
I also find out about some new books through bookstagrammers and on GoodReads; I love when a release comes up that I didn't know about that catches me by surprise!
Before you see my list (keep in mind these are just books that I'm excited to check out by some big names, and some of them will turn out to be let downs), here's a few fun facts for ya!
- Did you know that most "big name" books come out in spring and summer? A few others will be released in fall. It's always hard to find new books in November, December, and January though. That's usually when my book funks happen!
- Did you know that books are always released on Tuesdays? I guess it's kind of like how movies come out in theaters (or on streaming I think too?) on Fridays.
